The Parisian boutique
Mikimoto has been located in the fashionable Place Vendôme
since 1986.
Under the aegis of its Chairman Toyohiko Mikimoto, it patrons
the French debuts of twenty-four exceptional young girls upon
the occasion of the Crillon Debutante Ball.
Kokichi Mikimoto, the creator of
cultured pearl, had a dream come true on July 11th, 1893. After
many years of hard work and bitter disappointment, he obtained
a perfectly round cultured pearl.
In 1908, Kokichi Mikimoto obtained
the first biological patent in the world for the production process
of the perfect spherical cultured pearl.
By the time he died in 1954, at the
age of ninety-six, Kokichi Mikimoto was known as the "Pearl
King."
The pearl is the first jewel offered
to young girls, and the most beautiful ornament in a woman's life.
For centuries, the pearl has
been a symbol of feminity and purity. Mikimoto has brought this
tradition to women around the world with the pure white Japanese
Akoya Pearl, the precious pearls of the South Seas, and the naturally-black
pearls of Tahiti, which are becoming increasingly popular every
year.
